Can my fracture be treated without surgery/operation ?
Yes, If the fracture is a hairline fracture or an undisplaced ( the alignment of the bone is normal) it can be treated without surgery. But if the fracture is not maintaining normal alignment, most of the cases better results are achieved with surgery.
Before any surgery minor/major the anaesthetist doctor will assess you thoroughly and decide on the best type of anaesthesia (General, regional, local) possible. With latest advances anaesthesia/monitoring devices it is safe during surgery. Precaution is taken for patients on other medication
Healing is different from patient to patient. It may be different in two different joint/bone of the same patient. The delay depends on various factors like duration of injury, severity of the injury, the part of the joint/bone it is affected, age of the patient, activity levels, nutrition , underlying co-morbid conditions etc. So the time which doctor tells for healing is average time in a selected population and is not the definite time frame of healing .
